We recently received Learning resources Playfoam combo 8 pack to review. Kids could not wait to rip open the packaging and play, and I can honestly say I was impressed with the Playfoam.
What Is Playfoam?
Playfoam is a great sensory toy. It encourages hours of creativity and really gets those imaginations rolling.
The Learning Resources Playfoam has been recommended by 'Good Toy Guide' 2018, which is great as it definitely means a toy well worth the money!
In simple terms, Playfoam is made from styrofoam, designed and manufactured to make each tiny bead stick together, but ensuring that the beads don't stick to hands, carpet or hair.
Importantly, in fact probably the most important feature is the fact that is non toxic, and therefore can be enjoyed by children as young as 3.
Our experience playing with Learning Resources playfoam combo 8 pack
In the combo 8 pack, you receive 8 vibrant colours. Four of these are glittery, I was elated to learn that it is not tiny glitter that has been used (obvious when you remove the playfoam from packaging). I have terrible trouble cleaning glitter, and I always find the small specks manage their way to everywhere. I don't like finding glitter all over the kids either (especially when you find the straggler sitting in the corner of the eye!), so you can imagine how pleased I was to find that larger pieces have been added to make four of the colours sparkle. The larger pieces nicely remain mixed well with the playfoam beads, meaning one less stressed mum!
I had read that the playfoam does not stick to anything else, such as carpet, hands and so on, so was very excited to test this out. Upon opening the playfoam I quickly realised how true that was. The beads simply stuck together and not to my hands.
Both 7 and 3 year old played with this far more than I had anticipated. 7 year old created a 'cake shop' 'alien planets' and pyramids, 3 year old found the texture and feel so much fun, she pretty much sat in one spot squashing, moulding and pulling the playfoam apart, then repeating.
Three year old really did put the playfoam to test. After a while she decided to use the sofa (suede material) as her table, decided to throw her design in the air and walked around the house with it. If I had any doubts that this was an easy to clean toy, after 3 year olds extensive testing I can assure you, we have zero areas in the house with imbedded playfoam. We even got to test hair! I found 3 beads in 3 year olds hair, but they were literally sitting in her curls, no tugging of hair...in fact she didn't even realise I removed anything from her hair. The carpet has suffered in the past with playdoh, especially when kids have forgotten and stepped on it, but the playfoam, because of its design and structure, meant a spotless carpet (and I saw three year old kneel on her mound!).

Seven year old made a few other things, and wanted to continue to play for much longer (we've got to eat though), he stated he loved how squishy it is, and enjoyed making shapes with it. He made some great pyramids too!

What do we think?
I have thoroughly enjoyed playing with the kids using the Learning Resources Playfoam. It's a great tool for both kids and learning, for seven year old it is a great tool to help with creative writing and three year old is still discovering textures/structures and this is a great for her too.
The description states that learning resources playfoam doesn't dry out. This is an excellent thing, as I've lost count on the number of times I've had to get rid of dried out playdoh and even felt tips! Kids never remember to place things back correctly or ensure air tight seals, so I am hoping this lasts...well forever!
