Geology Activity Book

We were kindly sent the 'Geology Activity book' to review.

'Geology activity book' is part of the STEM starters for kids, published by 'b small' publishers.

Why we've enjoyed this book

The first thing I noticed with this book, was not only the fact that the cover is so beautifully well designed, but I was happy to see an explanation to what geology is and what STEM is.
The book intricately explains that 'Geology is the study of what makes up our planet, Earth, our natural landscapes and what is deep below us.'
STEM is 'science, technology, engineering and maths' and the book gives a wonderful overview of how the two, geology and STEM are related.

Little person has thoroughly enjoyed working through this activity book. He happily stated, 'this book is so much fun, it isn't full of too much writing , which can get boring sometimes'.

'Geology activity book' works through 13 topics, each topic comprising of two pages. The topic has an explanation followed by a fun filled activity. For instance, the pages about volcanoes, have a concise explanation about volcanoes with the second page being dedicated to a fun volcano related maze.

The illustrations in this book are super. Little person loves each and every page. The illustrations make the book more enjoyable and make it more encapsulating for children (adults alike!).

I've throughly enjoyed working with my son using this book, I've learnt words like 'Pangaea', 'Nuna', 'Rodinia', and 'Gondwanaland'. I won't give away what they are!

Using 'Geology activity book' has been great for our home school. Ive been able to use this book solely to teach little person about weathering, erosion, landscapes, rocks (permeable, impermeable), geological time, volcanoes, earthquakes, Igneous rocks, Sedimentary rocks and Metamorphis rocks, and so much more...
It has been a huge contributor to his science this week, and he now confidently knows about his favourite topics like volcanoes, understands how we end up with fossil fuels and (I was happy to see this, as this was his latest question) knows where oil comes from!

The fact that each topic has an activity has been a real winner. This has allowed little person to enjoy each topic, but at the same time the 'fun aspect' has allowed him to remember the topic and important points. I understand what he meant, when he stated too much reading made a fun topic boring, and this book has carefully and wonderfully struck a balance between the two.

Final thoughts

We have thoroughly enjoyed working through this book. I have been able to cover so much 'school' but in a relaxed and playful manner, and as the saying goes, learning through play is the best way.
If you are looking for something to make geology interesting, I highly recommend this book. Not only will you have all the facts there at your finger tip, but you will also find your child/ren enjoy the book so much with it's jam packed activities.

I like to let others know what I think of the quality of the product. I can happily say, the book is of a high quality, the type that my son cannot easily damage with his extensive use of an eraser (if there was ever a competition on eraser use - he'd win hands down!). The colours and pictures are amazing, and I can see why Vicky Barker (illustrator) won 'Blue Peter Book award 2018'.

So from us it is a 10/10!

Yipee adventure box - bug hunting theme

Yippee adventure box - bug hunting theme box  We  received  the marvellous Yippee  adventure box to trial, and after having enjoyed the  activities  with both 7 and 3 year old,  I  felt a review was worthwhile.  Yippee boxes are  designed  to encourage science,  technology, engineering, art and maths (STEAM), and 'To  facilitate fun and special family  experiences.' Upon opening the 'Bug box' both kids were  overwhelmed   with  the contents and eagerly dived in, so off we were, on our yippee  adventure! What's in the box? The bug box arrived with two categories of activities, 'Bug homes' and 'Go on a bug adventure'.  Bug homes Bug homes activities  were all about that, making, creating and designing homes for  little  creatures. The  first  activity little person dived into was, making his  spider web and spider. The activities can be easily carried out by children, except using the scissors..

Fusha House arabic

I was kindly offered the opportunity to complete a free session using FushaHouse arabic. Arabic has been a language that I've always wanted to learn, and it's also a language I've been passionate about. As little person has taken to writing and reading in English, Arabic was the second language I wanted him to learn. When learning a language, it is important to find resources that are easy to use, especially for younger learners. Over time I have tried so many books, apps and websites, but if the resource isn't exciting or encapsulating, young leaners loose interest very quickly. There is nothing worse than spending so much money and zero use. Nevertheless, I believe we have found a resource that ticks all the boxes. FushaHouse offers interactive learning, it is also child user friendly and the pace enables children to feel at ease, without feeling overwhelmed very quickly into the process. A lot of language resources seem to very quickly move on from basics to

Endangered animals activity pack

We recently received this wonderful fact filled pack from Archiboldclutterbuck (to read more about Archiboldclutterbuck  resources click here). Contents and what we think The pack is made up of an activity booklet and a poster. The poster is a great visual tool; with in depth (but not overbearing-too much to read) information about 6 critically endangered animals across the globe. Each animal is listed with a fact file (for instance type of animal, habitat etc), and reason as to why they are critically endangered. For each animal listed there is a beautiful photograph; I do believe having photography in such posters and texts is important , as it really does bring the whole concept and idea to 'life'. We love the poster as it's a great size, vibrant and easy to understand, with all the vital information but without too much to read, making it a perfect poster!  The activity pack is what you would ideally expect when teaching endangered animals. Learning fo
