We received dot. magazine to review.
Dot. magazine is 'The happy mag for preschoolers'.
We received issue 14, the theme of issue 14 is friendships.
The magazine has been well received by my 3 year old. She has had ever so much flicking through pages, colouring and reading with me. We've completed a maze, did some counting, spotted the odd one out and did dome alphabet work.
Alongside that, the magazine is full of simple stories, stories with great morals.
Three year old loved listening to 'Let's all be friends', a wonderful piece describing best friends, and ending with a space to draw your best friend. She also thoroughly enjoyed 'Fun with friends', which is full of excellent ideas for what to do with friends, things like 'play a card game, share an ice cream' and 'splash in puddles'. Each section ends with a lovely space to draw something relevant, such as a favourite thing to share with a friend, favourite game to play with a friend and so on.
I enjoyed reading 'Let's make friends', it's a lovely piece of writing explaining in simple terms (easy for my 3 year old) about the things you should do to make friends. Saying hello, sharing a book, being kind and much more. 3 year old really took it on board, and I found it a great piece to use to help her understand friendships and how to make and keep friends.
The magazine is full of fabulous pieces alongside those mentioned, there is 'We have friends, too!', 'Happy and Grumpy go to the cinema', 'Churro the round bunny', 'Swing all the way to the stars', 'A day in the life of a dolphin', 'A spoon from ancient times', 'Let's play', followed by lots of fun filled activities such as drawings, colouring, jokes, making your own phone and much more.
I actually giggled at 'Swing all the way to the stars', it was funny but touched a very important point. Our phones sometimes become the focal point wherever we are, and this little story really put it into perspective (yep about an adult focussed on his screen whilst something amazing happens). I truly believe that little reminder there was excellent.
As mentioned, 3 year old absolutely loved this magazine. This is the first magazine she has had and has loved being able to sit and read it with me. I've spent so long in supermarket isles trying to find a magazine that is robust, isn't full of adverts and will interest my daughter. Nonetheless, nothing has worked, so I was elated at the fact that she enjoyed this!
I've also felt this is a magazine that is worth the pennies. Not only is it excellent quality (the type of paper that kids cannot destroy!), it is full of life long important lessons, very simple short pieces (if your little one is reading they shouldn't have a problem with this). Furthermore, each piece comprises of two pages, and ends with a wonderful box to draw in. The drawing is the perfect way of reinforcing an important message.
I can see myself referring to this magazine in the future with her.
If you're looking for something for your little one, I highly recommend trying this magazine out. I can assure you, you won't be disappointed!
