Dare you to Doodle

We were kindly sent 'Dare you to Doodle' book published by Carlton Books.

From the title, you may have the impression that this is simply a book with lots of pages to draw/dooodle on. Now, as much as it does focus on drawing/doodling, there is so much more. Little person was absolutely awestruck with the content!

So, what makes it different?

We have a few drawing books, and they are essentially that, books with pages to draw or doodle following simple steps. With 'Dare you to Doodle' the difference is that it really gets children thinking.
To give an example,  there's the beginning of a drawing, and you're asked whether you see a duck or rabbit. The task is to complete what you see, and once you've done that, doodle something else! It is the 'twist' to simple tasks that has made this book very different to others we have (and far more enjoyable!).

Little person has enjoyed filling his treasure chest with treasure, and once again, it wasn't simply, fill it in with drawings, but super cool shading using a coin (or more) and crayons. The sort of shading I've only ever remembered to do using tree trunks or leaves! The difference in the method of completing that task made it so much more fun.

Another favourite task of little persons was, to continue doodling sticks with his eyes closed until he thought he had built the birds nest. A lot of giggles were heard during and after this task, children are very expressive, so seeing that was another confirmation that this book was a huge hit!

The book is full of so many exciting and fun filled tasks, from comic strips, making your own flip books, pop out pyramids, creating your own superhero, ensuring safe landings for skydivers and so so much more (a list that would be far too long to note here; after all the book has 144 pages!).

He hasn't quite finished his masterpiece, but mama wanted to take a photo!

Little person is currently working on trying to hold a scorpion for 10 seconds (I'm not giving anything away), and will then move on to think about whether the egg or chicken came first. He cannot wait to complete the dare and ruin some perfect art paintings (sounds scary!), and create many many robots. All in a days work. Alongside all these fabulous fun filled tasks, he will appear on TV, pop along to the moon, visit a haunted house, go back in time and so much more.

I can see us packing our 'Dare you to Doodle' book on all our trips. My son enjoys his doodling, but usually wants exciting ideas, and unfortunately I am not creative, so he normally gives up. However, 'Dare you to Doodle' is the perfect book for him. If it wasn't for his 3 year old younger sibling wanting to help out, he would be 'glued' to this book all the time!

Final thoughts

I can happily say, 'Dare you to Doodle' has been a huge hit in this house. It has provided the type of entertainment I was falling short on. There are arts and crafts activities, but most times little person wants to sit with his colours and a pencil, and this has been the book to give him that opportunity.
The quality of the pages is perfect, and, I've mentioned this many a times before; but little person is a 'go wild with the eraser' type of person...after all that erasing the pages look as good as new! We've also really liked the cover page, little person has said that 'it looks like a fun book and not babyish at the same time.'
Huge thumbs up from us!

Yipee adventure box - bug hunting theme

Yippee adventure box - bug hunting theme box  We  received  the marvellous Yippee  adventure box to trial, and after having enjoyed the  activities  with both 7 and 3 year old,  I  felt a review was worthwhile.  Yippee boxes are  designed  to encourage science,  technology, engineering, art and maths (STEAM), and 'To  facilitate fun and special family  experiences.' Upon opening the 'Bug box' both kids were  overwhelmed   with  the contents and eagerly dived in, so off we were, on our yippee  adventure! What's in the box? The bug box arrived with two categories of activities, 'Bug homes' and 'Go on a bug adventure'.  Bug homes Bug homes activities  were all about that, making, creating and designing homes for  little  creatures. The  first  activity little person dived into was, making his  spider web and spider. The activities can be easily carried out by children, except using the scissors..

Fusha House arabic

I was kindly offered the opportunity to complete a free session using FushaHouse arabic. Arabic has been a language that I've always wanted to learn, and it's also a language I've been passionate about. As little person has taken to writing and reading in English, Arabic was the second language I wanted him to learn. When learning a language, it is important to find resources that are easy to use, especially for younger learners. Over time I have tried so many books, apps and websites, but if the resource isn't exciting or encapsulating, young leaners loose interest very quickly. There is nothing worse than spending so much money and zero use. Nevertheless, I believe we have found a resource that ticks all the boxes. FushaHouse offers interactive learning, it is also child user friendly and the pace enables children to feel at ease, without feeling overwhelmed very quickly into the process. A lot of language resources seem to very quickly move on from basics to

Endangered animals activity pack

We recently received this wonderful fact filled pack from Archiboldclutterbuck (to read more about Archiboldclutterbuck  resources click here). Contents and what we think The pack is made up of an activity booklet and a poster. The poster is a great visual tool; with in depth (but not overbearing-too much to read) information about 6 critically endangered animals across the globe. Each animal is listed with a fact file (for instance type of animal, habitat etc), and reason as to why they are critically endangered. For each animal listed there is a beautiful photograph; I do believe having photography in such posters and texts is important , as it really does bring the whole concept and idea to 'life'. We love the poster as it's a great size, vibrant and easy to understand, with all the vital information but without too much to read, making it a perfect poster!  The activity pack is what you would ideally expect when teaching endangered animals. Learning fo
