My Little World

On our home ed journey, I like to find resources that provide fun, giggles, support our educational journey and most importantly are easy to use (anything that requires gathering resources/equipment always ends up on the 'to do' list). This is where 'My Little World' sets have been fantastic, with everything required provided, you simply open them up and get going!

Arts and Crafts

If there is one area I feel we lack resources in, and don't spend enough time on, it is definitely the arts and crafts. I also find it a little overwhelming when there is paint, glitter, glue, card...you name it, all over the room, so being able to find something that doesn't make a huge 'mess' is great (it is important to appreciate that children's creativity isn't 'mess', but at times the living space, for my sanity needs remain a living space!).
When I first saw the 'My little World' sets I knew that they would provide us with not only arts and crafts side of fun, but they are the perfect tool for imaginative play (with little 'mess'!)

My Little World play sets

Quite simply, they are 'Portable cut out, colour and play set'.
Each set comes with 12 A5 cards, designed to colour and cut out. The sets are ready to use, and each one comes with 12 pencil crayons and stands for the cut out cards.
There are quite a few different themed sets available:

  • Emergency services
  • Airport
  • Fairy village
  • Village high street
  • Space Station Foxtrot
Taken from the packaging, the description explain exactly how these sets are worth every penny;
'Watch your child's vocabulary, world understanding and imagination develop through play. See them engage in adventures that spark their creativity. Have adventures with the beautifully drawn characters and scenes. Play in simple black and white, or bring the world to life with colour.'

What We Think

Little person has played with two of the three sets he has. The first set he dived into was 'airport.' As stated, you can colour the beautiful drawings or simply play with them in black and white. Little person partially coloured the set, and then decided it was time to play with the set (with some uncoloured pieces).
What we truly love about the set is, the fantastic set by step pictures, creating a wonderful story. For instance, one of the foldable cards (with drawing on both sides), shows a cart loaded with suitcases, being driven,  and on the other side a drawing of an empty cart being driven. A plane with open doors, animals boarding, and another card showing the plane in the sky. Each drawing enables the child to continue to explore and expand their story, using their imagination and creativity.

The second set little person has played with, is 'emergency services.' Once again the sets provides excellent drawings. Little person used this set too, to create stories, but he also used the building pictures to design backgrounds for his toy cars. This shows, the sets do not have to be used all together, but pieces can be used separately and with toys to create further fun and play!

I have been truly amazed by how much these sets have helped little person and his creativity. We've always had a little bit of a struggle when it comes to story writing/talking, but using these sets his ideas have flown with ease. Our next challenge is to use the sets as part of writing main points for stories.

Overall, these seta are fabulous, and I know I will be packing these for our long journeys to keep the kids entertained! Have a look at 'My Little World' for more information.

Yipee adventure box - bug hunting theme

Yippee adventure box - bug hunting theme box  We  received  the marvellous Yippee  adventure box to trial, and after having enjoyed the  activities  with both 7 and 3 year old,  I  felt a review was worthwhile.  Yippee boxes are  designed  to encourage science,  technology, engineering, art and maths (STEAM), and 'To  facilitate fun and special family  experiences.' Upon opening the 'Bug box' both kids were  overwhelmed   with  the contents and eagerly dived in, so off we were, on our yippee  adventure! What's in the box? The bug box arrived with two categories of activities, 'Bug homes' and 'Go on a bug adventure'.  Bug homes Bug homes activities  were all about that, making, creating and designing homes for  little  creatures. The  first  activity little person dived into was, making his  spider web and spider. The activities can be easily carried out by children, except using the scissors..

Fusha House arabic

I was kindly offered the opportunity to complete a free session using FushaHouse arabic. Arabic has been a language that I've always wanted to learn, and it's also a language I've been passionate about. As little person has taken to writing and reading in English, Arabic was the second language I wanted him to learn. When learning a language, it is important to find resources that are easy to use, especially for younger learners. Over time I have tried so many books, apps and websites, but if the resource isn't exciting or encapsulating, young leaners loose interest very quickly. There is nothing worse than spending so much money and zero use. Nevertheless, I believe we have found a resource that ticks all the boxes. FushaHouse offers interactive learning, it is also child user friendly and the pace enables children to feel at ease, without feeling overwhelmed very quickly into the process. A lot of language resources seem to very quickly move on from basics to

Endangered animals activity pack

We recently received this wonderful fact filled pack from Archiboldclutterbuck (to read more about Archiboldclutterbuck  resources click here). Contents and what we think The pack is made up of an activity booklet and a poster. The poster is a great visual tool; with in depth (but not overbearing-too much to read) information about 6 critically endangered animals across the globe. Each animal is listed with a fact file (for instance type of animal, habitat etc), and reason as to why they are critically endangered. For each animal listed there is a beautiful photograph; I do believe having photography in such posters and texts is important , as it really does bring the whole concept and idea to 'life'. We love the poster as it's a great size, vibrant and easy to understand, with all the vital information but without too much to read, making it a perfect poster!  The activity pack is what you would ideally expect when teaching endangered animals. Learning fo
