MoCoLoCo design-jumbo poster

We received this brilliant jumbo airport themed colouring poster in return for an honest review

Airport themed poster

Did you know colouring is a relaxation activity that has been used widely in recent times, for adults as well as children? With that in mind you can imagine how much the children and I had been enjoying colouring!

What makes this poster different?

The design is intricate, the illustrations are fabulous, but the added humour makes this poster much more fun!

The poster we have is airport themed, so each section shows the different parts of the airport, from arrivals, queues at check-in, waiting areas to the airplanes and passengers. Each of the sections has a story, from taxi accident, sleepy sloths to pilots reading an upside down map (little person is convinced they won't make their desired destination!). The added humour has provided us with lots of giggles, and little person has commented how much more enjoyable the poster is than his usual colouring books.

There isn't a shortage of things to colour, from clothing to baggages, and it reminds me of a page from 'Where's Whalley?' where the pages were always full of lots of things going on.

Over the years we have collected an innumerable number of colouring books. They're great for a day, and very quickly the kids lose interest. The huge difference between the colouring books and this poster is the fact that the books try to remain 'simple', and that doesn't always work well for all kids. The general colouring books don't work well for little person as he likes to see the 'whole picture' - what's going on around the animal, where is he/she? Why is he/she dressed the way they are? And so on, with the MoCoLoCo poster it answers these questions, we know why there are suitcases and hats, or uniforms and briefcases, or why some animals are running (usually us at airports - never have made it on time!).

It was interesting to note that both children turned all devices off to focus on this particular colouring task. Usually, colouring and TV seem to run simultaneously. I do believe the brilliant size and superb illustrations encapsulated their attention (and that is a huge win for me).

Those behind the MoCoLoCo design posters have enabled a great fun filled family adventure away from technology.

Using jumbo poster for schooling

if you're a home educating family, the likelihood is everything can and will be linked to schooling (there's always something you can teach), and this poster is no different.

Firstly. I've focussed on English with the help of the poster, and more so creative writing. Little person isn't an enthusiastic story writer, so it has been great to use the poster to encourage him. I've broken down each section, asked him to select a character and talk through a short story relating to that character. The whole exercise has enabled me to work with little person on areas such as character building, beginning, middle and ending of a story. The illustrations have helped little person to explore what, why and how? the MoCoLoco poster has facilitated little person, allowing him to unleash his imagination.

There are so many other activities this poster can be used for, naming all the animals and then classifying them (we are hoping to this too)...and if you have the poster, did you/your child spot any carnivores happily strolling amongst the rest? (I won't be giving the answer away!)

The poster also contains an activity, 'can you find?', it's a fun activity getting you to have a good look at the picture.
3 Year old wanted to make sure there was lots of yellow in the background.

What we think?

I've quite possibly given this one away, but in case you missed it, we love this poster. We have, as a family enjoyed and continue to enjoy working through the poster. It is definitely a very enjoyable mini project. When the poster first arrived, I didn't think I'd be joining in with the colouring, but I won't lie, I have joined in and immensely enjoyed our time colouring together. The MocoLoCo poster is designed to provide family fun away from technology and devices, and that is certainly what it provides.

There are conversations we need to have with our children, but due to the serious nature we avoid, so when little person mentioned suspect package, my first reaction was, where did you hear that? He pointed to the poster, and that's when I realised how important it was not to try and hide the real world from children, but to slowly let them know  the reality. In actual fact, the conversation wasn't difficult, differentiating between bad and good, and how bad is unacceptable, the need for tolerance and love for humanity. The truth is, if I don't talk about the bad, I can't explain the need for love and kindness, the need and must to be humans  and allow humanity to lead the way. It was also the perfect opportunity to discuss how to react if you see something out of the ordinary. A topic that is deep but important, and I honestly am glad MoCoLoCo poster enabled me to have this conversation, and there's nothing better than a resource facilitating that.

Once we've completed the airport themed poster, we will be purchasing more (especially for the summer holidays).

On other reviews, I tend to mention the quality of the product used, and even though I was confident that the high quality is obvious via the photos, I thought I'd reiterate - just in case! The paper used is of a high quality, the kids aren't gentle but the poster still looks great, with zero tears and creases (the type paper gets when the kids lean on it). therefore, we are delighted with the quality too!

Yipee adventure box - bug hunting theme

Yippee adventure box - bug hunting theme box  We  received  the marvellous Yippee  adventure box to trial, and after having enjoyed the  activities  with both 7 and 3 year old,  I  felt a review was worthwhile.  Yippee boxes are  designed  to encourage science,  technology, engineering, art and maths (STEAM), and 'To  facilitate fun and special family  experiences.' Upon opening the 'Bug box' both kids were  overwhelmed   with  the contents and eagerly dived in, so off we were, on our yippee  adventure! What's in the box? The bug box arrived with two categories of activities, 'Bug homes' and 'Go on a bug adventure'.  Bug homes Bug homes activities  were all about that, making, creating and designing homes for  little  creatures. The  first  activity little person dived into was, making his  spider web and spider. The activities can be easily carried out by children, except using the scissors..

Fusha House arabic

I was kindly offered the opportunity to complete a free session using FushaHouse arabic. Arabic has been a language that I've always wanted to learn, and it's also a language I've been passionate about. As little person has taken to writing and reading in English, Arabic was the second language I wanted him to learn. When learning a language, it is important to find resources that are easy to use, especially for younger learners. Over time I have tried so many books, apps and websites, but if the resource isn't exciting or encapsulating, young leaners loose interest very quickly. There is nothing worse than spending so much money and zero use. Nevertheless, I believe we have found a resource that ticks all the boxes. FushaHouse offers interactive learning, it is also child user friendly and the pace enables children to feel at ease, without feeling overwhelmed very quickly into the process. A lot of language resources seem to very quickly move on from basics to

Endangered animals activity pack

We recently received this wonderful fact filled pack from Archiboldclutterbuck (to read more about Archiboldclutterbuck  resources click here). Contents and what we think The pack is made up of an activity booklet and a poster. The poster is a great visual tool; with in depth (but not overbearing-too much to read) information about 6 critically endangered animals across the globe. Each animal is listed with a fact file (for instance type of animal, habitat etc), and reason as to why they are critically endangered. For each animal listed there is a beautiful photograph; I do believe having photography in such posters and texts is important , as it really does bring the whole concept and idea to 'life'. We love the poster as it's a great size, vibrant and easy to understand, with all the vital information but without too much to read, making it a perfect poster!  The activity pack is what you would ideally expect when teaching endangered animals. Learning fo
