BrainBox The World

BrainBox games have been quite popular, and over the last few years, I seem to be hearing a lot more about them. Therefore, it was definitely time to buy to try! I decided to purchase 'The World' game to begin with.

How does it work?

The game consists of 72 cards, 1 rules card, 1 sand timer and 1 die.
'Our original BrainBox, designed for you to play with your family, will help improve observation and memory skills as well as knowledge of the world we live in.'

The game we purchased is level 4, which is aimed at 7/8+. Games are available in levels 1,2,3,4,5 and level senior.

The game has basic rules, for 1 player, using the timer you look at a card for 10 seconds. Turn the card over and answer the questions. As a solo player it's best to write down the answers. If all answers are correct, you keep the card, and total up how many you have after five or ten minutes. All of the answers are on the picture side of the card, just need to be super observant!

If there are 2 or more players, the youngest player goes first. Similarly to one player, the picture side of the card is studied for 10 seconds, however for younger players longer time slots can be allocated.

The card is then passed to another player, and the player who studied the card rolls the die. The appropriate question is answered (if you rolled 3, question 3 needs to be answered). The other player asks the question and then checks whether it is correct. If the answer is correct, player 1 keeps the card, if incorrect the card is returned to BrainBox. Play moves on to next player.

The player with the most cards after ten minutes wins!

I do like the mix of countries provided. There are quite a few uncommon ones, which is fantastic, as they're usually the countries no one knows much about!

Types of questions

All of the picture side of the cards includes capital city, the flag and then a few other well known good or places or produce or even sport. For example, Portugal card shows the capital city - Lisbon, shows the bordering ocean - Atlantic Ocean, Lavender as being one of the flowering plants, the famous tower- Belem tower - Lisbon. The cards also show the internet abbreviation for each country.

What we think

I have to admit, for a compact game that doesn't cost a lot, this is absolutely fantastic. not only has it helped little person really improve on his observation skills, carefully looking at the picture side, it has also immensely improved his memory skills. Furthermore, he now has knowledge about the world around him, and it hasn't been a mundane sit down activity, but a fun family game. If you want to help children with memory this is the game to buy! This isn't only good for children, but adults alike. I have managed to retain so much information with the short bursts of the games. Hopefully I'll know everything about the countries included in a few weeks!!

We are hoping to expand our collection, as there are so many BrainBox games available.

Yipee adventure box - bug hunting theme

Yippee adventure box - bug hunting theme box  We  received  the marvellous Yippee  adventure box to trial, and after having enjoyed the  activities  with both 7 and 3 year old,  I  felt a review was worthwhile.  Yippee boxes are  designed  to encourage science,  technology, engineering, art and maths (STEAM), and 'To  facilitate fun and special family  experiences.' Upon opening the 'Bug box' both kids were  overwhelmed   with  the contents and eagerly dived in, so off we were, on our yippee  adventure! What's in the box? The bug box arrived with two categories of activities, 'Bug homes' and 'Go on a bug adventure'.  Bug homes Bug homes activities  were all about that, making, creating and designing homes for  little  creatures. The  first  activity little person dived into was, making his  spider web and spider. The activities can be easily carried out by children, except using the scissors..

Fusha House arabic

I was kindly offered the opportunity to complete a free session using FushaHouse arabic. Arabic has been a language that I've always wanted to learn, and it's also a language I've been passionate about. As little person has taken to writing and reading in English, Arabic was the second language I wanted him to learn. When learning a language, it is important to find resources that are easy to use, especially for younger learners. Over time I have tried so many books, apps and websites, but if the resource isn't exciting or encapsulating, young leaners loose interest very quickly. There is nothing worse than spending so much money and zero use. Nevertheless, I believe we have found a resource that ticks all the boxes. FushaHouse offers interactive learning, it is also child user friendly and the pace enables children to feel at ease, without feeling overwhelmed very quickly into the process. A lot of language resources seem to very quickly move on from basics to

Endangered animals activity pack

We recently received this wonderful fact filled pack from Archiboldclutterbuck (to read more about Archiboldclutterbuck  resources click here). Contents and what we think The pack is made up of an activity booklet and a poster. The poster is a great visual tool; with in depth (but not overbearing-too much to read) information about 6 critically endangered animals across the globe. Each animal is listed with a fact file (for instance type of animal, habitat etc), and reason as to why they are critically endangered. For each animal listed there is a beautiful photograph; I do believe having photography in such posters and texts is important , as it really does bring the whole concept and idea to 'life'. We love the poster as it's a great size, vibrant and easy to understand, with all the vital information but without too much to read, making it a perfect poster!  The activity pack is what you would ideally expect when teaching endangered animals. Learning fo
